ORIGINS OF XINYAO. - part 2 @ 09:34

Hi there!
As promised, here is PART 2 of the background of local Chinese music - XINYAO.

GROWTH OF XINYAO.
Besides the continuation of the xinyao movement, the local Chinese pop genre has been developing rapidly, breaking into the music industry overseas.
The style of locally produced songs has transformed almost entirely into pop, with the addition of drumsets, cellos and electric guitars.
The lyrics often speak of love and the feelings it brings about. Most of such compositions are no longer unique to Singapore’s identity, in order to suit the needs of the markets overseas.

AND IT KEEPS GROWING...
There are locally produced Chinese pop songs, however, showing hints of the simple xinyao style and lyrics. A prominent local Chinese pop composer and singer JJ Lin has produced songs that remind one of xinyao, such as the clear acoustics of “bu dong” (Don’t know) with only piano accompaniment.

AND GROWING...
School-based and public singing competitions are held locally to promote the Chinese pop genre. Many night cafes and pubs also provide a platform for singers and bands to showcase their talents as well. “S-pop Hurray”, a competition organised by the local media and theme songs local Chinese television dramas contribute to the promotion of local Chinese music as well.

S-POP HURRAY!!!
We are confident that we will be able to rise up to the top one day, and influence the rest of the music industry with our unique style and culture:)
